but they work great for it
Most people are looking for gators to keep snow/water out. I was looking for a pair that would keep out the foxtails when I go hiking through the grass. They tend to get stuck in my socks mostly, however they can also get stuck in my hiking boots. After spending about a half hour pulling them out of my socks and hiking boots after my last hike, I went on Amazon to see if I could find some lightweight gators. Most are made to be waterproof for skiing, however most of my hikes are in the summer often times through grass. I was looking for a more breathable (non-coated) nylon that would repel the foxtails, and not be too hot for hiking. I was quite interested in these, when I saw them. Though they are water repellent (therefore, probably hotter), I was interested in the fact that they were the only pair that I had seen that were below the calf, rather than above it (and therefore, potentially cooler). After receiving them, I used them on my next hike. I was very pleasantly surprised at how well they repelled the foxtails. Only a couple were around at the end of the hike, and they fell away as soon as I opened the Velcro to take them off. And they weren't nearly as hot as a full gator would have been. It's an unconventional use for them, but they work great for it. (And saved me about a half hour post hike.)

OK for a weekend - avoid for anything serious
These are light and reasonably cheap, but you get what you pay for.On the plus side, they're incredibly light. That's about all.Soooo many negatives. First, as other reviewers have mentioned, the choice of fabrics is just kind of weird. They aren't rain proof, but they aren't breathable either. I can see going one way or the other, but it seems like this design is set up to funnel rain into my shoe while simultaneously trapping sweat. There are a couple of other head-scratcher design choices too, from the upside-down placement of the lace hook, the lack of a snap/fastener at the top or bottom of the velcro closure, and the gigantic cordlock on the side of the gaiter that makes it hard to tuck the excess cord under the gaiter. Some of that plays into the durability of the product too. I was able to get about 100 miles out of them before I had to replace the cord and 200 miles out of these before the uppers separated from the velcro closure.Bottom line is that these would be decent for a 2-3 times/year hiker looking to keep trail debris out of their shoes, but not very good for anyone else.

What can I say they are great.
I bought these to keep dirt, pine needles and gravel out of my low cut hiking boots. I already have a pair of over the calf gaiters. I used these hiking on a muddy and snowy trail. I did not use the front shoe lace clip or the under arch strap. these were not necessary. Nice to have it I were in deep snow I guess or fording a creek, but this is not why I have them. What can I say they are great. No issues at all. Easy on easy off. pack up nice a small in the tiny pouch. Any one complaining probably should have got the over calf gaiters or is expecting way to much. These are really summer gaiters for keep crud out of your shoes. i could have tied bandannas around my ankles to do the same thing, but why when there are these? My legs and feet did not get hot like with over calf gaiters. Just buy them.

these AMYIPO gaiters probably won't be a good substitute for (1) or (2)
If you're considering these gaiters, it's probably based on price. The competition is (1) very lightweight trail-running gaiters, at twice the price and up, and (2) slightly beefier low-rise hiking gaiters, at three times the price and up. If you need gaiters you'll use regularly, these AMYIPO gaiters probably won't be a good substitute for (1) or (2), even considering the price savings, but they might be suitable for infrequent dry-weather use if your shoes aren't too big.Pros: - Lightweight and packable. The pair is 2.24 oz (1.12 oz each) on my scale, and they pack down to the size of a clementine. Stuff sack included. - Good build quality. Within the constraints of any lightweight product, of course. Upper and lower materials are reasonably rugged, seams are sewn well, the bottom edge (where the gaiter meets the shoe, and where the cord attaches) is reinforced with an extra layer of silnylon, and the lace hook attachment and the webbing loop for the cord -- both stress points -- look very durable.Cons: - Why pair a waterproof upper with a super absorbent lower? While the upper is silnylon, the lower is a slightly stretchy polyester blend. It has no DWR treatment and soaks up water like a sponge. This more or less restricts use to dry and dusty weather. But in that case, it would have been better just to stick to a stretchy soft fabric throughout, since the noisiness of the silnylon (crinkling and swishing) can be annoying. - One size doesn't fit all. Specifically, they don't fit on my size 13 hiking shoes. They will just barely close over my size 13 running shoes, but see the point below. And the reinforcement of the bottom edge means it has no elasticity, so I suspect that it might leave a gap on small shoes. - While the under-foot cord is removable, this gaiter isn't designed to be used without it -- there's nothing else holding the gaiter down. So if the sole of your shoe doesn't have enough arch clearance for the cord (many running shoes don't), this product won't be your best bet. - Not enough lace coverage. On most gaiters, the front extends far enough to cover most or all of the laces. Depending on shoe size, you'll probably cover only the first couple laces with these.

Came in with a missing clip
I bought this product for a trek to Mount Kilimanjaro. Unfortunately I did not open the package until I reached the destination. Upon Opening I found that one of the gaiter was missing the tightening cord. Ended tying a knot to make it work since at that point I was on the trek already and had no alternative. About 1/2 way up the climb on day 1 one of the gaiter came off the shoe and was gone. Ended up discarding the other gaiter as well. Item looked good and seemed like it would do its job but was disappointed that it did not even last 1 day.
