Best gift for Psych & book lovers!
Ok, this wasn't actually for me... it was a gift for my girl. I'm a video gamer, and she's a book reader. [For all the guys without girls and <AHEM> All the single ladies! All the single ladies!! (sorry, had to!) If one reads books and the other games, it creates this bizzare natural harmony & understanding of the other. Try it sometime!] Anyway my girlfriend and I love Psych! We've been watching since the beginning. So this holiday season, I needed a couple small gifts that would hit the mark! This book blew her away! For as many books as she reads, and for as much as we both go online... how'd she miss this and I find it?! (Definitely no video game/KISS products to be found here) I was kinda worried that her having such high book standards, and me with my rather limited interest in books, that it might not live up to the show or her idea of it... NOPE! It about put the girl in tears when she saw it! Smash hit! She literally started reading it right away. Ok, so guys and dolls out there who are fans of the USA Network, you have got to get this! Who knew that the the best shows on the USA Network have books to accompany?! (Burn Notice has a series too, check 'em out!) Maybe someday for us guys the USA Network will release WWE on paperback... (the perfect story for our girlfriends to read to us while we play our video games!)Until next time...

Pretty close to the show
I would say Shawn was a little more ridiculous than on the show; some of the jokes were slightly too long. Pretty good, though.

Attention Psych fans
Great book, just like the tv shows. If you've ever watched the series you will love the books, new mysteries and hijinks.

This felt like an episode of Psych.
I really enjoyed this book, and I recommend that anyone who loved Psych or just likes a good mystery give it a read.

A humorous take in the TV show, with extra misogyny
I’m not sure if my memory has tainted the Psych TV series, and since I don’t have access to the show I can’t check, but I do not remember so much misogyny between the male and female characters, especially Shawn. I know he was portrayed as a goof and very aloof, but I never thought of him as a hound dog, literally staring at a woman’s breast so much that it was actually plot relevant. Though I loved Gus and how the story was told, the sheer amount of objectivity given to the female characters is staggering. The whole plot hinges on this fact, and honestly, it was a lot for me to look past.Once I did, that story was pretty good. I read this novel in only a few sittings because of how engrossed I became in the plot. The play between Gus and Shawn felt real, and funny. I chuckled more than a few times. The many twists and turns during their investigation left me guessing, which leads to an entertaining read, but I do not feel the ending paid off. Certain aspects of the climax were amazing, in particular one involving Cola Blak, but the final reveal was less than remarkable. I only felt confused, not so much by the reasoning behind Shawn’s deduction, but by the frankly staggering stretches in logic he had to take. I was also disappointed by the lack of representation among the supporting cast. Lassy and Jules were barely mentioned and their roles in the story boiled down to watching Shawn have visions. This really upset me because Jules was my favorite character and seeing her demoted to just "Cop with Boobs" was disheartening. I distinctly remembering how I wished her character would suddenly become badass when in the next paragraph there would be some wise crack at her expense. Like I said before, I’m not sure if my nostalgia goggles are skewing my view of things, so take this with a grain of salt. I certainly have plenty to give.

Great!
This book is fantastic. And just because I rated it five stars doesn't mean its perfect, nor that I'm blinded for my love of the Tv series. This book has the true spirit of the series, and is the best book-to-tv hook ive ever read. The other books of this series are good as well, but this one is by far the best. You view into the mind of Gus, rather than Shawn like in the Tv series. Because what fun would that, knowing everything that Shawn does? Its like the writing style of the Sherlock Holmes novels, for Gus is Shawn's hilarious Watson. I implore you to read this, for no fan is truly a Psych-O unless you read this series.

Complex and Clue-like, but still fun
I've watched the entire Psych series several times over and this was a neat story that seemed to take place pretty early on the the timeline (maybe around season 2 or 3). Firstly, it was written from Gus's perspective. The characters were the same, but it was weird reading from the perspective that the friendships that were formed throughout the series weren't quite developed yet (i.e. Juliette and Shawn). I also missed the nicknames ( Jules, Lassie and the Blueberry)... and the, one-liners (come on son, wait for it, what!?, I'm proud of you, etc.), inside jokes (pineapples) and pop culture references that really make the show special. I felt like the writer didn't know the characters or history very well and kept it overly formal. There was quite a bit going on and the story was way more complex than any episode. It was entertaining nonetheless. Recommended for any Psych fan, just be prepared to feel like you know the characters better than the writer did.
