Q: Can I record a channel whilst viewing another at the same time

Yes, but you will need a USB flash drive to record on to, as the box does not contain a hard drive.

Q: Can you use a normal ariel for signals other than sky.

According to the spec. It is suitable for both Freesat and Freeview. Freesat can be connected to an exsiting Sky dish to recieve the Freesat Channels whilst The Freeview is the Terrestrial channels via a conventional ariel.

Hi! I do not have a Saorview box, but, I installed an omni-directional aerial. It works for the bands and frequencies of all the Irish TV channels. Connecting the iView box, simply tune in the channels as normal. It works perfectly.
