This item is a contender for first place in the "worst thing I ever bought on Amazon" contest.I bought this to look at plants and things at high magnification. Then life got in the way, never even opened the box. Life settled down and I opened the box. No instructions.... OK I can wing it. Battery compartment is actually screwed into place with the tiniest tiny screws. No tiny screwdriver was included so the hunt was on for an eyeglasses repair kit.After the batteries were installed, I realized there are 2 lights. One shines ON the object ...but from the side. I know, weird. Not sure why the side light is a thing, but there it is.The magnification lenses - some are labeled on the front where you can see the numbers. Some are labeled on the back where you can't see the magnification numbers. BUT THAT'S OK! Because no matter which level of magnification you choose, it's nearly impossible to adjust the focus precisely. The object on the "slide" is practically jammed against the lens. The focus comes and goes within a hairsbreadth of turning the knob. And you STILL can't see anything useful anyway.Wish I'd opened the box within the return window. That's what I get for trusting reviews.

This would be good for a 3-5 yr old child but any kid over that would be pretty unexcited by the terribly low magnification and grainy view.
