Hook your unconventional bike up to a mast-style hitch rack with the TubeTop. This handy adapter installs quickly and securely to seat post and stem to create a faux-top-tube for your bike. The result: it mounts solidly to the rack. Large molded collars are gentle to your bike’s finish. Dimensions: L 22.00in x W 1.00in x H 1.00in.

Too large for a Specialized women’s bike
The product was described as “fitting kids bikes, women’s bikes, and bikes with sloping down tubes”. This is great as long as those bikes have a large distance between the seat post and the handlebar stem, which most women’s bikes do not have (unless the woman is very tall). I purchased a Specialized women’s hybrid bike in a medium size (I have a long torso) and the required bike distance was nearly 1” too short to use this TubeTop adapter. Even the specs of the large size of this bike would have a distance that was too short. And Specialized is a common make of bike! This adapter would fit most men’s bikes, but if you’re on a women’s hybrid, you might find it too long. I’m very disappointed because the product appeared to be well made but the description was inaccurate.

WAAAY too hard to open!!
I bought this for my daughter's bike so it would fit our new Yakima Ridgeback 4 which was given to me as a gift to celebrate my new fantastic Nissan Rogue SUV. I am in love with the rack, but that's for a different review.... Anyway, so today, we were loading bikes onto the rack for the first time ever.To be fair, I think this adapter is a whole lot better than the old ones we had years ago when the kids were little. The rubberized ends and the good fit around the handlebar post and the seat stem surprised and impressed me very much. The huge problem for me is that the opening mechanism is too difficult... Impossible, in fact. You have to press little buttons down into little holes until the movable part of each end can be opened. It takes strength, and it takes steel thumbs. I seriously CANNOT do it. **It hurts my hands**. It wasn't very easy for my 22yo daughter to do it either. But she somehow managed. I need something that will work for me.Anyway, so while we were loading the bikes onto the rack, it became quite evident that my bike also needs an adapter. So I went back online to Amazon with plans to order another one from Yakima. I really thought there were no major differences in adaptor features, i.e. that the opening mechanism is the same across the board. But you know what? It isn't!! Other companies have come up with better designs! So for my bike, I have ordered a Swagman Bar Adapter Deluxe. And I'm seriously thinking about returning the Yakima one. Yakima has changed so many things about their bike racks recently, made them incredibly outstanding, with great ease-of-use features. But the adapters are stuck in time. Basically the same as ever, even though everyone complains about how difficult they are to open. Hopefully they will get the message and make this seemingly simple device even better than their competitors. Meanwhile, I am going with the competition this time.

Bike almost fell off out of the tube.
First off let me say that I love Yakima, I love everything about their racks.. solid and reliable. This top tube however almost spilled my bike onto the highway. I use it three days a week and I've had it for about a year. This afternoon I got to my destination and the bike was barely hanging by a thread. It had twisted itself right out of the front bracket and somehow just hanging by the handlebar. They need a serious redesign on these to make it impossible for those locking bars to come loose. Mine did.

Does Not Fit 16 Inch Kids Bikes
I bought this crossbar to attach My twins' 16 inch bikes to my Yikama hit rack, but unfortunately, this crossbar is too large for these kids bike. I wish the description would include which kids bike size is this crossbar compatible. This crossbar seems to be be sturdy, and I have no doubt that I would work in other longer bikes.

Super Easy to Use, Rugged Feel
I have a platform rack for my vehicle, so the sole purpose of this extender was to mount my carbon fiber bikes to my work stand. This bar works perfectly. It is way more sturdy and nice looking than I actually needed, but I am glad I spent the extra money. I leave the bar locked into the stand and simply slide the bike up into it. This is as quick and easy as locking into the stand itself. This approach does allow the bike to swing, but that hasn't been a problem and isn't the fault of the extender. Happy customer, would recommend to others that can't safely lock onto their carbon frames and don't have enough space on the seat tube.

Solid unit with ends that protect the bike - very happy with the this adapter.
The Yakima unit has some weight to it and feels very solid. The ends are completely covered with a rubber\plastic coating, which seems sturdy, so the bike won't be scratched or damaged by any metal to metal contact. I was also looking at the Allen adapter as it has a spring to keep tension on the bar when installed while the Yakima does not have a spring. The reason I chose the Yakima was two fold - I use a Yakima Ridgeback Hitch carrier and the Yakima unit has ends that completely close. Of course I suppose any unit would work with the bike carrier but just figured since I was new to using this type of unit I would use one from the same maker as the carrier hoping to avoid any potential issues. The concern I had regarding the Yakima not having a spring to maintain tension turns out to not be an issue as the rubberized ends grip the bike such that after driving I haven't seen any movement of the bike in the bar when I have arrived and checked for movement. Is the Yakima worth the extra money compared to the Allen unit?Since I haven't used the Allen unit I can't answer that however, I feel that I have received good value for the money spent for the Yakima unit.

It does it work, just I don't quite understand how
I have a Yakima rack, thus using Yakima Bike Tube would be the logical choice. Surprised me was it doesn't have spring in it. At first I was wondering if it is defective. After watching a few videos on how to put it on, my conclusion was it doesn't have it in the design.Unlike the other tube I own, where there is a spring to give tension of the two ends, Yakima has spring only at the latch one need to pressed down to open/close to install it.So far it carries my bike without issue, thus the spring tension might not be important?

Decisamente scarso
