AMAZING!
After hearing "Hide U" a couple of years ago, I must confess I wasn't really tempted to listen to the rest of the CD. But then a friend told me she was curious after listening to a bunch of breath-taking remixes from DJs like Satoshi ("Hungry", check it out if you have the chance). So I got it from Amazon as a gift for her, and of course I could't resist giving it a try. OMG I was shocked since the very first time I played it.It has a blend of different genres, so don't waste your time trying to figure out whether it's D&B or not. Just enjoy it! Each song has astonishing vocals which cannot be compared to any other singer (ok, some songs may remind you of EBTG but that's it!) Needless to say, I got a copy for myself and I'll get Kokopelli wishing it is as good as this =)

A Strange Diorama....
Starting with the intriguing title & cover image, followed by the stunning interior photos of stuffed creatures in nature dioramas, and rounded out by the static stones of sampling flowed over by the elastic voice of Bristol diva Sian Evans, Kosheen is an aural & visual experience not to be missed. The melancholy of "Let Go" and the snarkiness of "Cruelty" transcend all music label genres of drum & bass, electronica, and intelligent pop. It is the melodies that rule here, not the protools. If you like Dido, Slowpho, Olive and especially Beth Gibbon's of Portishead's solo CD, "Out of Season," then you will love Kosheen.

excellent......a very hard album to put down
my ony complaint, is that one of my favorite tracks "repeat to fade" is not on the disc. that is the main reason i bought it - but don't get me wrong it is absolutely wonderful!! i love the cd, but I really miss the supposed track#10 (on mine it is hungry) i went to the kosheen site, and apparantly there are several versions of this album. so, if you like that track as much as i do, be very careful when you scan the song titles.this is the first time something like this has happened to be.otherwise, i think "resist" is pure magic and in my book - an absoulte work of art.

This is a good album.
Amazon has asked me to review my recent purchase, so I will. This album bears many trappings of the so-called "drum 'n' bass" and "trip-hop" genres. It is, however, not as disjointed or frenetic as, for example, Squarepusher, or nearly as dark as Portishead. The songs are quite catchy and melodically astute--they are basically pop songs set to a much faster paced beat than generally gets radio play. The lyrics may be a bit dramatic for you, but if you enjoy dramatic lyrics (I do) then you will probably enjoy this album. I got it in high school and it was stolen, and since then has gone out of print, so I was most pleased to find it used and CHEAP on Amazon, and it conjured up so many memories of that time when I was one big raging hormone. If, by the way, you are one of those people who needs to get everything that has come out of Bristol then you certainly can't neglect this record, as it is one of the more accessible albums from that scene. Good day.

Kosheen is awesome.
Kosheen is awesome. Sample some of their stuff on You Tube -- Avalanche, Guilty, Hide U, Cover. If you like them, go ahead and get this album, Kokopelli, and Guilty. All three are great. So are their subsequent albums, but those three are excellent.

BE CAREFUL>> ENHANCED CD IS CORRUPT!!!!!!!!!!
I bought this special enhanced CD thinking it was all that much cooler (well, it should have been) but the Video part DOESN'T WORK!!! Check it out online or something, but the manufacturing [messed] up a bunch of these CDs. Be careful buying this version, if you really don't need the video, save your money and get the regular non-UK version.

The Whole is greater than the sum of its parts
This really is a very well constructed and evocative album. And if the singles 'Hide You', 'Catch' and 'Hungry' weren't enough to entice you there is certainly a great deal more on offer here to sink your teeth into from this very distinctive and talented group. In particular- 'Slip and Slide (Suicide)' and 'I want it all' are extremely meaningful, powerful examples of what this band can do. The haunting and resonant voice of the lead singer, the poignant lyrics and the bold musical choices could all have easily come across as depressing by themselves, but together they become something greater. This is a deep, thought provoking and particularly brave debut album, but this is music that's also very easy to float away on and the listener is given ample opportunity to gently muse on this record that's charged with inventive and mesmerising sounds throughout. There's also a refreshing amount of difference between the tracks, too often debut albums trade on a single sound or idea and carry it through into every track, but despite the phonetic similarity in the lyrics between 'Hide You' and 'Catch' there is a surprising variation here in feelings, sounds and ideas. Definitely one to add to your collection. Great album artwork too- very unusual!

You will have "Pride" in this Album :P
Well what can i say this Album totally rocks :) Quality dance tracks like "Catch" which im sure most people who have typed in "Kosheen" in to the amazon search engine know of :)Was one of the main reasons i bought this album (now quite some time ago) But in my opinion tracks like "Empty Skies", "Hide U" and "Pride" are even better. An absoloutely quality Dance album that will have its place in your cd deck for a long while to come. "Face in the crowd" was another track that i took an instant liking to, mainly for the vocals and catch tune. Please do your dance collection justice and drop a copy of this into your checkout basket, you wont be disapointed.

Go get it
I do love Kosheen's style and this is a great album. Would definitely recommend. I do feel they are a bit in the shadows of Tricky, Massive Attack and other bands and artists from the Bristol area but if you have not discovered them yet, then make it your mission
