Wonderful selection of stories
The first, Almost is aptly titled. It "almost" ties everything up at the end, but not quite. What happened to Evan? To Mavis? Will's daughters? Daniel's family? I gave it five stars because I couldn't put the book down, but boy I was left hanging.

Six for the price of one
What a great way to introduce yourself to new authors you haven't read before. I had already read the Ann Patchett book (which is what lead me here in the first place was looking for more by her), but had never read any of the other 5 authors. I have thoroughly enjoyed each story, skipped one cause it wasn't for me, but became fully engrossed in all the others. Now I have 3 new authors and have already "wishlished" their other novels. I read a lot and this book(s) has kept me going for quite some time now - still one left! Highly recommend!!!

I would give 3 or 3 and 1/2 It leaned toward being a love story, (an unusual one)
All of the books of this compilation, I would give 4 stars, except for The Last Chinese Chef. The Last Chinese Chef, I would give 3 or 3 and 1/2 It leaned toward being a love story, (an unusual one), whereas the other books leaned toward literary fiction and historical fiction I especially liked The Hearts of Horses and The Magician's Assistant.

Delicious
Each story brings you to a different time and space. Each has a unique female perspective and each is interesting and engaging.

would be hard pressed to pick a favorite. This is a bargain and a great way ...
I haven't finished it yet but am already recommending it to my family and friends. The stories are very individual, thought provoking, and are keeping me up way too late at night, as I just can't put my kindle down. would be hard pressed to pick a favorite. This is a bargain and a great way to get in some quality summer reading.

Highly Recommended! Six Terrific Novels for the Price of One!
I would love to find more books like this one. This book is a great bargain: six full-length books by six different but equally talented writers for a price comparable to a single novel. More importantly - it's a delightful read from cover-to-cover. So few novels capture my interest beyond the first few pages that I often check out six library books at a time in hopes of having just one I might truly enjoy. The Best Contemporary Women's Fiction is aptly titled: I found every one of the six stories to be well-written, intriguing, and difficult to set aside, and was very sorry to finally come to the last page of the last story. This is by leaps and bounds the best purchase I have made for my Kindle, and I highly recommend it.

What a deal!
I've been a bit bothered by how much I've been spending on ebooks, so it was a pleasant treat to discover this compilation of 6 full novels for the same price as a single book. The first book in the compilation that I read was "The Magician's Assistant" and it just blew me away! So, even without considering the other books, I'd have to give this compilation 5 stars. I'm now on my 3rd book and the writing is just terrific.

Each novel surpasses
I am on the fourth of these six novels and find each one to be great. I am a student of literary fiction, have been all of my adult life (I'm 79), so I think I speak with some authority. Don't ever let anyone say that good writing is dead, or that reading is dead. These novels prove otherwise.
