Arksen 016-IGT-1500R 1500-Watt Inverter-Generator: Amazing!
I would have given this amazing and affordable inverter-generator a 5-star rating, but customer support seems to be non-existent for these re-badged inverter-generators.But this portable workhorse compares favorably the Honda inverter-generator... at 1/4th the price! As customer support and repair seems not available for the Arksen 016-IGT-1500R 1500-Watt Inverter-Generator, a proper break-in is crucial:1. Remove the side panel of the inverter-generator, remove the oil cap, and add 0.27L / 9.13fl.oz. of SAE 10w-30 oil, but use the mid-point of the oil dipstick as your guide. Replace oil cap. I know, having to remove a side panel to simply add oil may seem troublesome, but this inverter-generator is fully enclosed inside with a forced air cooling / sound proofing jacket, plus the outside panels to add even more sound proofing, all made of plastic to further absorb sound. All this combines to make this inverter-generator whisper-quiet and easy on the ears.2. Open up and remove the foam air filter, add some SAE 10w-30 motor oil, and wring it out. Then wrap a paper towel around the foam filter and squeeze out even more excess SAE 10w-30 motor oil, and replace the filter inside the inverter-generator.3. Remove the spark plug and pour in no more than about a tablespoon of SAE 10w-30 motor oil into the spark plug hole and onto the top of the piston. The inverter-generator, sitting upright and level, the internal motor piston head/piston rings will also be in a level position, allowing an even coating of the piston and rings with the oil. Loosely cover the open spark plug hole with a paper towel to prevent excess oil from splattering out of the spark plug hole, and slowly pull the motor crank cord about 10 times. You'll feel the piston taking on a good coating of the oil and the motor will begin to turn much smoother. Replace the spark plug and spark plug cable.4. Add 93-octane gasoline to the fuel tank. Ethanol-free gasoline is required, or the warranty is voided, but ethanol-free gasoline is not available in California, so 93-octane gasoline with ethanol is the best alternative. Note: When using gasoline-ethanol blends, be sure to turn the inverter-generator off by turning off the fuel cock from the internal gas tank and letting the carburetor run dry. And then turn off the On/Off switch. This will deny the ethanol time to damage the fuel line and carburetor. Also, the inverter-generator probably does have a 3.0 liter (0.8 gallon) gas tank, but I've only cautiously filled up to about 2.25 liters (0.6 gallon), to allow for any gasoline expansion from the warm motor. But upon closer examination, the gas tank is not positioned above the motor, and never seemed to get warm to the touch, so the gas tank can probably safely be filled closer to the 3.0L maximum.Note: Some owners add SeaFoam brand fuel stabilizer to gasoline (1-2 ounces per gallon) to counteract the ethanol.5. Crank up and run the inverter-generator for one hour, without a load... with nothing plugged in, in Economy mode. Note: The inverter-generator will briefly smoke until the tablespoon of added oil has burned off from the cylinder. And another point: A common point of failure with many portable gas generators is the pawl and ratchet mechanism in the recoil starter. So never simply grab the handle and yank the cord to start the generator. Instead, slowly pull the cord out until you feel the internal pawl engage the ratchet mechanism, and then firmly pull the cord out to pull-start the inverter-generator.6. After 1 hour, turn off the inverter-generator, turn the gas-cap vent to "Close", remove the side panel and oil cap, turn the inverter-generator completely on its side and quickly and completely drain the still-hot oil so that any loose metal particles are flushed out of the crankcase. The oil, originally clear-amber, will appear dark and dirty.7. Return to the upright position and replace with 10 fluid ounces of SAE 10w-30 motor oil (the inverter-generator was shipped with actually about 1 fluid ounce of motor oil in the crankcase), check the oil dipstick, and replace the oil cap and side panel.8. Turn the gas-cap vent to "Open", start up the generator and run for 3 hours, again, without any load. After 3 hours, turn off the inverter-generator, turn the gas-cap vent to "Close", remove the side panel and oil cap, turn the inverter-generator completely on its side and quickly and completely drain the still-hot oil so that any loose metal particles are flushed out of the crankcase. This time around the oil will appear much cleaner.9. The inverter-generator break-in is now complete and you're good to go with a full load, although I've not plugged more than 900 watts load so far.The Arksen 016-IGT-1500R 1500-Watt Inverter-Generator seems to be based on the Model XYG1200I 1000-Watt Inverter-Generator:http://en.xingyue.com/product-detail-757301.htmlTheir basic model lacks the extra 120VAC outlet, as well as the 12VDC universal car outlet (4 Amp), as well as the USB outlet (1 Amp), but the manufacturer does offers these features as extras, which are conveniently standard on the Arksen 016-IGT-1500R 1500-Watt Inverter-Generator.This unit is manufactured by:Zhejiang Xingyue Industry Company, Ltd.China Xingyue Group Co. Ltd.Huangtang Industrial Park Xingyue High-tech Park, Jinhua, Zhejiang, China... and also:Huangtang Industry Area, Dongcheng Street, Yongkang, Zhejiang, China 321300Phone Number: (86 579) 87516653 (86 579) 89269005Fax Number: (86 579) 87516511http://www.globalsources.com/xingyueindustry.coThe Arksen 016-IGT-1500R 1500-Watt Inverter-Generator weighs 27 pounds (12.25kg), out of the box, without fuel and without oil.The inverter-generator has a noise level of 56 dBA, when measured with a sound level meter. This is by no means the quietest generator on the market but it’s not as loud as you might expect either. At no load, a 56db noise level is somewhere between the noise of quiet conversation at home and quiet conversation in a restaurant. But simple dBA readings can be misleading, since a 2-cycle generator with about the same dBA reading will usually be much louder on the eardrums, grating on everyone's nerves, appearing much, much louder then the softer sound emitted from 4-cycle generators, such as the Arksen 016-IGT-1500R 1500-Watt Inverter-Generator.The run time from a tank of gas is entirely dependent on the load put on the inverter-generator.I've yet to exhaust the initial 2.25L (0.6 gallon) of gasoline I put in the tank, it just runs and runs and runs, but 2.25L should last for about 6.75 hours, running at 25% capacity, or about 5.25 hours, running at 50% capacity, and less time at 90% (900 watts) capacity. When the gas tank finally empties, I'll pour in 0.5L of gasoline and time how long it runs at 90% (900 watts) load. Stay posted.I like the 60cc displacement of the internal gas motor, as the 40cc displacement commonly found in other similar generators just seems too weak for years and years of service. The OEM spark plug is the Torch A5RTC... a resistor spark plug.http://www.torchgroup.cn/support_31.html*** The Owner's Manual states the Torch spark plug as CMR6A, but is actually a Torch A5RTC.Alternative replacement spark plugs: NGK CR5HSA DENSO U16FSR-U NGK 4549 CR7HSA Standard Plug(but it's a cooler firing plug)The instrument panel of the Arksen 016-IGT-1500R 1500-Watt Inverter-Generator does have a hookup for an earth ground, which I use.I built a novel, and truly portable earth ground setup of three 32-inch long ground rods made from 1/2-inch pure copper pipe, wired together in series.I've found this much, much easier to drive into the ground... and later extract. But I first drive a 30-inch long 1/2-inch steel conduit into the hard ground with a hammer. A solid iron 1/2-inch plumber's end-cap brazed on the end of the conduit pipe protects the end from mushrooming from the hammering, and the open end of the conduit is angle-cut to allow for easy penetration.I then pull out the steel conduit pipe and insert the 1/2-inch copper pipe grounds, and fasten the solder-tipped bare ground wire into a copper ground screw mount that is soldered onto the top of the copper pipe. Some people also take the extra step of saturating the copper pipe and ground with water mixed with a high-iron content fertilizer. But a plug-in circuit tester will still give an "Open Ground" reading. But this is easily fixed by taking a standard 3-prong ground plug and "build" the plug with the jumper that connects the ground to the neutral (always the larger prong) and plug it into one of the 120VAC outlets on the Arksen 016-IGT-1500R 1500-Watt inverter-generator... or into a power strip that is plugged into the Arksen 016-IGT-1500R 1500-Watt inverter-generator.The plug-in circuit tester will now give a "Correct" reading, and you're good to go.I may eventually open up the instrument panel of the inverter-generator wire the ground and neutral together, just to simplify use. Stay posted.

Shhhhh, Quiet please!!
Bought this for a camping outing to charge phones. It said in the ad it was quiet, I was surprised how quiet. We could run this almost at any time and it was barely audible over regular conversation. We daisy chained two 6 outlet power strips together and it had no problem charging when all were hooked up. It seemed to sip the gas as we started out with it full, about 1/3 gallon and added about 3/4 gallon over the course of a week of running everyday. I would recommend this generator.

It works well but documentation sucks!
The manual is poor, no parts catalog and no warrant information. Changing the oil is a mess. starting is very easy, fuel economy is good. works well at elevation above 8000 ft

Excellent buy! Would purchase again!
We took a chance on this little unit as it had not yet received any reviews. I guess that makes us the first one's! When the package arrived, it was a box inside of another larger box. Good thing as a little bit of oil had leaked during shipment but the extra packaging helped keep the unit from incurring damages. Assembly was minimal and the unit works fantastic! We love the electric start feature too. Note: You may need to hookup the battery to get the elec start feature to work! Excellent build! We would purchase again!
