excellent introduction to uniquely varied ethiopian crosses
This is a excellent text (presumably out of print) on the wonderful artistry that Ethiopian artisans have fashioned on the Christian symbol of the cross. Ethiopia adopted Christianity in the 4th century. Made out of wood, brass, silver or more rarely gold, these crosses have been made in myriad shapes and forms over the centuries, some only faintly recognizable as the crucifix. Color reproductions are of outstanding quality. Interested readers should also try to get a copy of African Zion by Marilyn Heldman also out of print as well as Ethiopian Crosses by S. Chojnacki.
