Just what I wanted. Surprised it turned up in a box that said it contained chicken feet!

Unrefined but nonetheless useable.
This review pertains to the 1600ml size of canister, of which I purchased three.SUMMARIZED REVIEWThe construction of the clip and hinges reminds me of the tin-plate toys of long ago -- unrefined but ultimately functional. The lids are transparent acrylic and are, literally, a bit rough around the edges such that a quick rub with emery-paper or a nail file wouldn't go amiss. There is a compressible sealing ring around the lid edge. The lid and canister can be aligned adequately but imprecisely. For protecting items such as grains and biscuits from ants, mice and dampness, I reckon that the canisters will be adequate for a storage period of up to half a year or so. If I needed more canisters for such a purpose then I'd certainly consider purchasing more of these. I cannot describe the canisters as beautiful or elegent but I do find their utilitarian appearance pleasing to the eye. Apparently some 'coffee canisters' have a valve of some sort, but these do not.DETAILED REVIEWIf your storage needs are more stringent or obscure than merely keeping your biscuits crunchy and safe from maurauding creepy-crawlies then these further details will, I hope, be helpful. The base of the cansiter is not flat but is slightly raised in the centre. From this raised base to the metal lip of the opening, the internal depth of the 1600 ml canister is about 176 mm. The internal diameter has a slight constriction where the hinge-band sits and at that point is about 115 mm. Keep in mind that I've no idea what the manufacturing tolerances and the canisters you receive might have slightly different dimensions. The outer surface of the canister walls is smooth to the touch and the inner surface is slightly textured.I created a partial vacuum within the jar by sealing in some warm air and then cooling the canister. The partial vacuum was still present after 30 minutes so the seal on this metal canister is more effective than that of some glass jars that I've had. I haven't attempted any longer vacuum test. As already noted, the alignment of canister and lid is imprecise so if maintaining a partial vacuum is important to you then keep in mind that you will need to close the lid carefully in order to get the optimum position of lid, seal and rim. The sealing ring is not merely flat but also has a ridge that projects into a recess in the lid. There appear to be hairline stress cracks in the acrylic lids of all three of the jars I received. These cracks are in the same places on each lid and my guess is that they have formed when the lids have been extracted from the injection molding machine. For day-to-day kitchen use I'd say that the cracks are of no significance but if you were hoping to store something in a partial vacuum undisturbed for a couple of years, then I'm not confident that these canisters will be adequate. As supplied, the wire clip that latches the lid into place had a tendency to wrap itself around the thumb-press bit of metal and the two bits then had to be eased apart before it was possible to close the lid. This small problem was quickly fixed by simply squeezing the wire clip with pliers in order to reduce the space between each half and so remove the 'sloppiness'.My own need for canisters is for storing computer disks when they are not inside a computer and need to be protected from dampness, static electricity and bugs of the biological type. Into the 1600ml size canister it is possible to place two 3.5 inch hard-disks side-by-side and have a centimetre or so between them. I haven't properly tried packing the canisters with 2.5 inch 'laptop' disks but I'm confident of being able to fit at least six of them and probably eight or, perhaps, nine. In each case there's plenty of space into which to put some bags of dessicant.
